Please help the Pea Pickin' Hearts #saveERNIE the #retroRVJon & Rachel here. Because of YOU, the best fans on the planet, we get to spend our days traveling & singing our tunes of love & loss & laughter. We recently decided to buy a RV to call home while we are on the road with Oscar, the littlest Pea (our son) & the furry Pea Pepper (our rescue mutt). We wanted our road experience to reflect our lives –happy & compact, funny & a little backwards. We were dedicated to not accruing more debt, and we knew the RV needed to be able to make it 2.5 miles up to the the top of our Gatlinburg mountain home.

Please help the Pea Pickin' Hearts #saveERNIE!The criteria was simple:

  1. JUST big enough to hold 3 people, equipment & a dog.
  2. No active water leaks; and
  3. Mechanically sound.

We drove hours to NC, SC, GA, VA and the corners of TN in search of our new home. Finally, in Tullahoma, TN, we met Richard who was the second owner of a 1986 27′ Class A Allegro motorhome. Ugly. No, it is ugly, we promise. But, it had a new transmission, new 70K mile tires, new brakes, new shocks, and so many more “news”. The owner, Richard, reminded us so much of Ron (Rachel’s dad) that it seemed fated. We brought the home and went to work updating plumbing leaks and mouse-nibbled wiring. We named him “Ernie” in homage to Tennessee Ernie Ford whose famous line “Bless your pea-pickin’ heart” inspired our name. On route from Pineville, WV to Winston-Salem, NC, Ernie started making a horrendous sound and our oil pressure dropped to zero within 2 minutes or less. Ernie “threw a rod” and requires a new engine. We’ve found a rebuilt engine in Seattle for $2771 (w/shipping) & the installation will cost $3325 (many thanks to the wonderful folks at R&C Towing and Repair in Wytheville, VA). Our friend Vince is coming to rescue us, our equipment & our dog, but, we need $6K+ to get Ernie out of RV jail & back on the road. (continues below)

Singing together for folks is really all we’ve ever really wanted to do. We have tour dates all over the country this summer (from Vermont to Texas) that will have to be cancelled if we can’t #SaveErnie. We need your help. No amount is too small. We chose to use because they only charge 3% in fees (most sites charge at least 8%) plus the goals & deadlines are flexible. As a “thank you”, we are going to print #SaveErnie bumper stickers as donation rewards. You can email us ( to get a sticker for helping to #SaveErnie.
