SWALLOW & SWOON by the Pea Pickin’ Hearts ©2014

(Recorded live at the Pittsboro Roadhouse for the Tokyo Rosenthal Radio Program on Sept. 4, 2014)

Jon & I are rarely apart–maybe 8 to 10 hours per week. And, every time we see a story about couples that die in short succession, we talk about dying of a “broken heart”.  We can only imagine that the same will be our fate many years from now.

But, it is really just a sweet love song, with a sea shanty feel, about lovers dying one just after the other–based on the traditional sailor’s tattoo imagery of the swallow being a metaphor for safe passage.  Although it IS about death, it is a sweet song of devotion that anticipates being reunited as opposed to mourning loss.

This song is dedicated to every musician that ever played a sports bar where the stage is directly opposite of the big screen TV on game day. We feel your pain. 🙂 We’ve had our share of cancelled Saturday night shows due to football games…
