CUT A RUG by the Pea Pickin’ Hearts ©2015

(Recorded live at the Songwriter Spotlight on the Sound Biscuit Productions Stage
at the Bloomin’ BBQ & Bluegrass Festival on May 16, 2015)

Sneak peek of our new tune “Cut A Rug” (from Last Words, being released 8/11/15).   We’re still working the kinks out of this slice-of-life tune about a trip to the record store & dancing your heart out. This was recorded just before the bottom drops out at the Bloomin’ BBQ & Bluegrass Festival–we all got soaked. Thanks Sound Biscuit Productions for the UStream capture! ‪

MAGPIE MARY by the Pea Pickin’ Hearts ©2014

(Recorded live at the Royal American for BalconyTV Charleston on March 25, 2015)

Magpie Mary is the story of a a young girl that wants for the best in love & life much like the magpie is attracted to all that sparkles. And although it seems that Mary misses the goal at every turn, she shines as bright as the sun nonetheless.  Enjoy…

CRICKETS by the Pea Pickin’ Hearts ©2014

(Recorded live at the Pittsboro Roadhouse for the Tokyo Rosenthal Radio Program on Sept. 4, 2014)

This song is dedicated to every musician that ever played a sports bar where the stage is directly opposite of the big screen TV on game day. We feel your pain.  :) We’ve had our share of cancelled Saturday night shows due to football games…

SWALLOW & SWOON by the Pea Pickin’ Hearts ©2014

(Recorded live at the Pittsboro Roadhouse for the Tokyo Rosenthal Radio Program on Sept. 4, 2014)

Jon & I are rarely apart–maybe 8 to 10 hours per week. And, every time we see a story about couples that die in short succession, we talk about dying of a “broken heart”.  We can only imagine that the same will be our fate many years from now.

But, it is really just a sweet love song, with a sea shanty feel, about lovers dying one just after the other–based on the traditional sailor’s tattoo imagery of the swallow being a metaphor for safe passage.  Although it IS about death, it is a sweet song of devotion that anticipates being reunited as opposed to mourning loss.
